6th Class Photography Workshop

9th June 2023
Scoil Phadraig Naofa and Athy Photographic Society recently took part in a Still life photography workshop. Through the guidance and expertise of Athy photographic Society the children of 6th class were led through a two week workshop in which they discovered the wonders of photography. Week one focussed primarily on exploring photography, creativity and how we look and approach things. This was led by Pat O Rourke and James Mahon. The children really enjoyed examining photographs and identifying types of lighting setups used, the blending of colours and rule of thirds.

Week 2 consisted of taking their photographs. The children worked in groups to plan their photos, gather props and finalise an editing style. Thanks to James Mahon, Niall Carson, Dave Daly, Nigel Gillis and Elizabeth Fingleton who gave up their time to guide the children through exploring and taking their photos. They encouraged them to experiment with their set up to see what worked best for their desired end result. The children really enjoyed this aspect of the collaborative project,  learning about lighting and the impact it can make on a photo.

Once finished the photos were sent to Aisling Hyland who was gracious enough to judge the photographs. Needless to say all staff at Scoil Phádraig Naofa and members of Athy Photographic Society were very impressed with the standard of creativity and photography produced by the children.
