The senior boys soccer team kicked off their FAI Kildare Division 2 campaign last week with an impressive victory away to Scoil Bhríde Kilcullen. SPN looked calm and composed in the opening minutes, putting together some good passing moves and causing Kilcullen huge problems. The deadlock was broken after 15 minutes when Aaron O’Connor swung in a dangerous corner that went all the way into the back of the net. Kenley Berry-Foley added a second before half time with a stunning half volley from outside the box.
The second half saw Kilcullen grow into the game and they got their reward with an excellent free kick that Alex Hickey could do nothing about. Tobi Rudy came on for Luke Murray on the left wing and made an instant impact as he linked brilliantly with his brother Filip to run in behind the Kilcullen defence and finish calmly past their goalkeeper.
The game finished 3-1 to SPN Athy and puts us in a great position heading into the second group game against Patrician’s Newbridge this Friday at 11.30 on the Athy College all weather pitch.
