February Attendance Campaign
During the month of February we held an Attendance Campaign to promote and highlight the
importance of excellent attendance. All classrooms had and attendance raffle in their rooms during the
month. Children received a raffle ticket every day they were in school. On Friday 27th February each
classroom pulled out one raffle ticket to reveal the lucky winner. The lucky winners got to choose a prize
from Ms.Greene’s room. Due to everyone’s great efforts we improved our February attendance
percentage from the last school year. In February 2025 our attendance rate was 91.4%. This February
our attendance rate was 92.3%. We also tracked the best and most improved classes. Mr. Bollard’s 4 th
class had a very impressive attendance rate of 98.2% for the month of February. Ms. Allen’s Senior
Infants and Ms. Kane’s class saw an excellent improved in attendance in February. Those three classes
enjoyed a tasty breakfast in the staffroom as a treat. Let’s continue to work together and strive for
excellent school attendance.
Parent and Child Cookery Class
In March we held a Parent & Child Cookery class. Christina Fitzgerald from Sláintecare kindly visited our
school to facilitate the class. She spoke to the parents about healthy eating, the food pyramid, portion
size and offered lots of practical tips and support to encourage healthy eating at home. The children
then joined the session where we made a yummy fruit smoothie and pitta pizzas. Keep an eye out for
courses being run in the Sláintecare Healthy Communities Hub in Mount Hawkins, Athy. Their next adult
course ‘ Healthy Food Made Easy – Free 6 Week Course’ starts Wednesday 15th April to May 20th from

Senior Infant and First Class Story Box Workshop
We were delighted to welcome Kim McCrave from kimsstoriverse to our school on Friday 20 th March to
facilitate a story box workshop with some of Senior Infant and 1st class parent/guardians and children.
Each child selected a fairytale picture book. Together with the help of their grown up they created a
scene and characters to accompany their fairytale. The children designed and decorated their own
wooden box and wooden peg characters which they can now use to bring the fairytale to life. The
creativity from both children and adults was amazing to see and it was a very enjoyable day.
Junior Infant Reading Session
On Tuesday 24 th March we were delighted to welcome parent/guardians of Junior Infants to the school
for a reading and craft session. One of our Junior Infant teachers, Ms. Dowling spoke to the parents on
Reading for Joy and the benefits of reading aloud to children at home. Sandra from Athy library joined
us to let us know events that are happening in the library and resources that are available to borrow
from the library from books to sensory toys. The children and grownups enjoyed listening to a picture
book ‘This is Not my Hat’ by John Klassen. We then made our own Easter and Spring themed hats which
turned out beautifully! Take a look at the photos to see the fabulous hats the children designed. Thank
